## Desk highlights

The notes the desk scored highest this day, in full.

### 07:20 UTC · US buyers extend Bitcoin discount to 42 days

For a 42nd straight day, Bitcoin cost less on Coinbase than on global exchanges. US buyers closed Oct 16 paying -0.142% under the global price, the gap known as the Coinbase premium.
The past seven days averaged -0.120%, so Oct 16 finished deeper than the week's typical discount. The length of the run says more than its size.
In futures, quarterly $BTC contracts priced above spot at an annualized +5.46%, which is the yearly rate buyers pay to own Bitcoin at a later date instead of today.

### 05:40 UTC · Bitcoin's computing power grew over the week

985 EH/s of computing power was securing Bitcoin on Oct 16, by our node's count. That hashrate, the combined power miners point at the network, is +8.6% against 7 days earlier and +14.2% against 30 days earlier.
Mining difficulty, the setting for how hard each block is to find, stood at 140.58T. Miners earned 484.6 BTC on the day, and the typical transaction fee was 1.0 sat/vB, the price per unit of block space.
More hashrate on the network means more machines competing for that same daily revenue.

### 01:07 UTC · Leveraged AGT shorts lose $1.7M

AGT just squeezed the traders betting on a lower price. Over the last 30 minutes, the major venues liquidated $1.7M of $AGT short positions, meaning exchanges closed them because losses ate through the collateral backing them.
Buyers using leverage got off far lighter, with $131.1K of long positions liquidated in the same window.
These totals come from the raw liquidation streams of the major venues.

### 05:07 UTC · BingX reopens ADA withdrawals on BEP20

BingX has switched ADA withdrawals on the BEP20 network back on. The route had been closed for about 24 hours, based on the exchange's own currency list in our daily read.
The people this touches are $ADA holders on BingX who wanted to send coins out as BEP20 tokens. For a full day that door was shut, and anyone needing that specific route had no way out through it.
The listing now shows the BEP20 route as open for withdrawals.

### 02:37 UTC · MEXC reopens AVAX withdrawals on X Chain

MEXC has switched AVAX withdrawals on the X Chain network back on. The pause on that route lasted about 1 hour, going by the exchange's own currency list in our daily read.
The reopening matters to $AVAX holders on MEXC who wanted to send coins out through X Chain (listed as AVAX_XCHAIN). This event covers only that one network.

### 01:37 UTC · MEXC shuts AVAX withdrawals on X Chain

Avalanche holders on MEXC can no longer withdraw over the X Chain network. The exchange's own currency list, which we read daily, now marks AVAX withdrawals on that route as closed.
The people affected are $AVAX holders on MEXC who planned to send coins out through X Chain. Deposits and other networks may still be working.
A withdrawal pause is the earliest public signal a venue gives when something is wrong, though most of them turn out to be routine maintenance.

### 00:37 UTC · CL shorts squeezed for $3.4M in 30 minutes

Traders betting against CL just took a $3.4M hit. In the last 30 minutes, the major venues force closed $CL short positions, bets on a lower price, after the margin behind them ran out.
Long positions, bets on a higher price, came through nearly untouched, with $2.8K liquidated over the same window. The pain sat on one side of the market.
The count comes from the raw liquidation streams of the major venues.

### 07:40 UTC · Hyperliquid's biggest Bitcoin traders lean short

The largest Bitcoin traders on Hyperliquid have more money on the short side than the long side. Across 281 accounts we track, bets on a fall add up to $1.00B, against $610.00M on bets that the price goes higher.
Longs make up 38% of the money these accounts hold in $BTC positions, and the rest sits with sellers.
The reading counts open positions on a single venue, Hyperliquid, which makes it one slice of the market rather than all of it. It shows where these accounts are positioned, not when they trade.

CL broke the pattern. Of $4.24M closed there, $4.14M came from bets on a fall. The largest single forced closure of the day was a $564K position in BZ.
The day's total came in 36% below the $79.54M recorded on Oct 15.

That 9.95% gap between funding and borrowing was the widest across 15 assets on three venues. It is a recorded spread for the morning read, not a fixed rate.
