## Desk highlights

The notes the desk scored highest this day, in full.

### 12:40 UTC · US buyers pay less for a 56th day

US buyers have paid less for Bitcoin than the rest of the world for 56 days in a row. The US premium, the gap between the American price and the global price, reads -0.243% today.
That discount is wider than the -0.174% average of the past seven days. Today's reading sits below the typical level of the week behind it.
A premium shows where the price is set, not which way it goes next. A streak this long means the US price has sat under the global price on every one of those 56 days.

### 09:01 UTC · US buyers bid under the world for 56 days

US buyers have bid Bitcoin below the global price for 56 straight days. $BTC stood at $77,321 on Oct 31, -0.86% over 24 hours, and the American discount carried through another soft day.
The Fear & Greed index reads 30, in fear. Bitcoin holds 59.30% of a $2.6T crypto market.
The biggest leverage move came in $XRP. Open interest, the money still riding on futures bets, moved -3.5% with price at -0.8%, leveraged longs closing out into the drop. Bitcoin order flow toxicity, a gauge of how lopsided trading is, read 0.13, the 36th percentile of 90 days.

### 07:20 UTC · US buyers stay below global price for 56 days

American buyers paid less for Bitcoin than the rest of the world for a 56th straight day on Oct 30. On Coinbase, $BTC traded -0.243% under the global price, deeper than the -0.174% seven day average for the same gap.
The futures market priced things differently. Quarterly contracts sat above spot at an annualized +5.02%, which means futures buyers were still paying extra to hold exposure out to expiry.
The US discount and the futures premium pointed in opposite directions on the same day.

### 05:40 UTC · Miners piled on power, fees stayed cheap

Machine power on Bitcoin is far above where it stood a month ago, and getting a transaction into a block still cost almost nothing. Our node put hashrate, the total computing power securing the chain, at 1137 EH/s on Oct 30, with a 30 day change of +20.5% and a 7 day change of -2.4%.
Difficulty, the bar miners must clear to win a block, stood at 148.36T. Fees ran at 1.0 sat/vB, a low price for block space, and miner revenue came to 453.8 BTC.

### 02:40 UTC · Hedge funds add CME longs a fifth week

Hedge funds have added longs on CME Bitcoin futures for 5 straight weeks, yet in the week to Oct 27 they were still net short 3,979 contracts. Their net position moved 963 contracts toward the long side over the week.
Institutions sat on the other side, net long 2,754 contracts, after cutting that long by 245 over the same week. Total open interest, the number of contracts still open, stood at 20,791.
In CME Ether futures, hedge funds were net short 4,025 contracts.

### 02:37 UTC · Tron shorts are paying heavily to stay

Tron's perpetual futures just posted a steep negative funding reading. Funding is the periodic fee between the two sides, and at -0.15% per interval it's the traders betting on a lower $TRX who pay the ones betting on a higher one.
A typical reading is about 0.01%, paid by longs to shorts. Today's level is far outside that and runs the opposite way.
The price has gone their way so far, with $TRX at -8.56% over 24 hours. The fee is the cost of staying short in a market already down.

Gold led the losses at $32.85M, ahead of $SNDK at $20.98M and silver at $20.45M. The single largest closure was a $1.00M gold position.

## Desk log

The rest of the day's notes, in order of publication.

### 00:07 UTC · Shorts squeezed out of $1.6M on SNDK

A short squeeze just hit $SNDK. Over the last 30 minutes, the major venues closed $1.6M of leveraged positions that bet on a lower price, shut automatically once their collateral no longer covered the move against them.
The long side came through almost clean, with $1.2K liquidated in the same window. Nearly the whole bill landed on the traders who were short.

### 00:35 UTC · Biggest forced exit hit a Bitcoin short

Price drifted lower, yet the most expensive liquidation of the day landed on a bear. $BTC finished the 24 hours to Oct 31 at -0.89%, last at $77,270.
The top hit was a short liquidation of $11.4M on Binance, a position betting on a lower price that the exchange closed anyway. Across the window our collectors logged 3,930 recorded prints of $1K or more.
The heatmap behind the candles is an estimate of where leverage sits; the prints on them are recorded closures.

### 00:37 UTC · Bitget closes USDT withdrawals on Avalanche

A single route is shut at Bitget. Withdrawals of $USDT over the Avalanche C Chain network are closed, according to the exchange's own currency list in our daily read.
Anyone holding Tether on Bitget who planned to send it to an Avalanche wallet can't use that path through Bitget at the moment. Deposits and other networks may still be open.
A paused withdrawal route is the earliest public signal a venue gives when something is off, and most of these pauses are routine maintenance.

### 02:38 UTC · Bitget reopens USDT withdrawals on Solana

Bitget has reopened $USDT withdrawals on the Solana network. The route was shut for about 2 hours before the exchange's own currency list showed it open again in our daily read.
Anyone keeping Tether on Bitget who wanted to send it to a Solana wallet can use that path through the exchange again. Only this one network is covered here. Other USDT routes on Bitget may have their own status.

### 05:07 UTC · WhiteBIT closes TRX withdrawals on TRC20

WhiteBIT has closed $TRX withdrawals on the TRC20 network, according to the exchange's own currency list in our daily read.
As of that read, anyone holding TRX on WhiteBIT can't send it out over TRC20. Deposits and other networks may still be open.

### 06:20 UTC · Bybit undercuts OKX on USDT borrowing

Bybit charged the least to borrow USDT on margin in the Oct 31 read at 05:25 UTC, at 3.94% a year. The same stablecoin cost 6.4% on OKX, and the median across the three venues we track was 5.34%.
On Binance, borrowing $BTC itself cost just 0.49% a year. Leveraged Bitcoin longs on that venue paid 10.95% a year in funding, the fee longs hand to shorts.
That 10.46% gap between the two rates was the widest recorded among the 15 assets we track.

### 07:41 UTC · Gold tops open bets on traditional markets

Gold is the biggest open bet among the traditional market contracts that trade on crypto venues. XAU contracts carry $707.03M in open interest, the money still committed to open positions, ahead of SPCX at $553.85M and crude oil (CL) at $390.54M.
Across all 234 instruments in this group, open interest comes to $5.26B, and trading volume over the past day reached $18.98B.
This is one reading of positions left open across the venues we collect. It shows where traders keep exposure, not which side they're on.

### 09:20 UTC · Paradex fund moves -7.60%, majors barely shift

Paradex had the day's biggest insurance fund swing, -7.60% in the 24 hours to Oct 31. The large funds barely moved. OKX, still the largest at $2.92B, changed -0.28%, and Binance, at $2.46B, added +0.14%.
All 10 venues together held $7.55B, a -0.08% day worth -$5.8M, and -0.97% over seven days. An insurance fund is the money an exchange keeps to pay for liquidations that close below a trader's bankruptcy price. The pool equals 16.30% of perpetual open interest on the coins we track.
These are balances the venues report, not audits.

That is the start of the week ahead. Across 15 venues, 141 dated futures and 7,584 option contracts expire in the next 7 days.
The 24 hours to 09:15 UTC on Oct 31 were quieter. Only one dated contract settled, Deribit's USDC margined AVAX future, at $8.449 at 08:00 UTC.

### 09:40 UTC · MEXC lets Bitcoin traders borrow up to 500x

MEXC lets Bitcoin traders open positions at up to 500x, the highest cap among the 13 venues we track. Phemex allows only 20x on the same coin, so the same $BTC bet runs under very different limits depending on where it's placed.
Across the 50 largest perpetual markets, the average maximum leverage was 79.9x on Oct 31. Exchanges changed their leverage tiers, the steps that cut allowed leverage as a position grows, 58 times in the 7 days to that date.
DigiFinex, Gate and HTX cap Bitcoin at 200x, Binance and Bitget at 150x. Gate spreads its limits over 19 tiers, MEXC uses one. The latest change came from XT, which cut CYS from 20x to 10x on Oct 31.

The largest ask sits almost on top of price, $33.1M at $77.4K, 0.05% above mid. The largest bid rests much further away, $36.5M at $72.9K, 5.75% below mid.

### 10:00 UTC · Whale sellers edge buyers in a split day

A $31.9M Bitcoin order was the largest single whale trade in the 24 hours to 10:00 UTC on Oct 31, but the wider flow of big money never settled on a direction.
Across 6,956 large trades, whale sized sells came to $6.44B and buys to $5.95B. Buyers held 48% of that money, a slight lean to the sell side that stays inside the 45% to 55% range we read as two sided.
$BTC drew most of the action, with 4,354 of those large trades.

### 11:01 UTC · Liquidation levels crowd both sides of Bitcoin

On the estimated liquidation map at 11:00 UTC on Oct 31, $BTC traded at $77,376 with modeled liquidation levels close on both sides of the price.
Above, the nearest modeled short level is $77,685. That is where traders betting on a fall would be forced to buy back. Below, the nearest modeled long level is $76,962, and the largest long cluster lies further down at $74,522.
Within 3% of price the modeled exposure is two sided. Neither short sellers nor leveraged buyers carry the larger share.

### 12:00 UTC · Solana bets pile up as price slips

Solana drew the biggest build of new futures bets among the majors in the 24 hours to Oct 31, 11:35 UTC, and it came on a down day. Open interest, the value of futures positions still open, rose 4.2% as the price slipped -0.74%, a mix our tracker classes as shorts building.
Chainlink came next at 3.84%, but there the price climbed 3.87% alongside it. Bitcoin added 1.87% on a 0.29% move.
XRP and Cardano went the other way, shedding -1.46% and -1.32% of open positions.

Ether has moved above the range where most of yesterday's perpetual trading took place, and Bitcoin hasn't. $ETH trades at $2,250.86, over a value area of $2,218.56 to $2,248.97 built around a most traded price of $2,237.15.
$BTC trades at $77,535.30, still inside its own value area of $76,559.27 to $77,767.69. Its most traded price on Oct 30 was $77,280.43, and the session closed at $77,312.60, +0.04% over it.

### 13:00 UTC · Ether shorts crowd just above price

On Oct 31 at 13:00 UTC, Ether's estimated liquidation map leans toward traders betting on a fall. Within 3% of the $2,251 price, more modeled exposure sits above price, on short positions, than below it on longs.
The closest modeled short level is $2,254, almost on top of price, and the larger cluster sits at $2,265. If price reached them, those sellers would be forced to buy back.
On the other side, the nearest modeled long level is $2,217 and the larger long cluster is lower at $2,157. All levels are estimates built from open interest and leverage, not recorded liquidations.

Ether's biggest orders are stacked tight around price on both sides. Across 21 spot venues at 13:55 UTC on Oct 31, the largest sell wall held $19.3M at $2,232 and the largest buy wall $17.9M at $2,225, each 0.15% from $2,229. Within 2%, asks outweighed bids, $94.5M to $87.6M, a 3.8% lean to sellers.
Bitcoin's book leans the other way. Bids within 2% of $77,455 came to $200.5M against $121.9M of asks, a 24.4% tilt to buyers. Its biggest buy wall, $36.4M, rests far lower at $72,924, 5.85% below, and the nearest heavy sell size is $27.0M at $77,571.

### 14:01 UTC · Chainlink's book charged the most for size

Bitcoin's order book absorbed a $1.0M market order for an estimated 0.3 bps at 14:00 UTC on Oct 31. The same order in $LINK cost 27.3 bps between the quoted price and the average fill, the steepest of the eight books we track.
$ADA came next at 19.6 bps, then Dogecoin at 7.7 bps and BNB at 7.6 bps. On the deep side, Ether cost 0.7 bps, Solana 2.8 bps and XRP 4.4 bps.
On books this thin, each forced closure moves the price further than the same size would in $BTC, whichever side of the trade gets hit.

Short sellers on $PEPE were paying to hold their bets in the 24 hours to 15:00 UTC on Oct 31, even as open futures positions there shrank 9.12%. Funding stood at -0.08%, the fee shorts hand longs to keep positions open. Money left this market, and the side still in it is the one paying.
$Q shows a different shape. Open bets grew 28.89% with shorts paying -0.05%. New money is arriving on the side that already pays, which is what crowding looks like.
The biggest build came on $AKE, where open bets rose 80.5% and funding stood near flat at 0.01%.

Lira buyers paid less for Bitcoin than the rest of the world on Oct 31. The Turkey Premium Index read -0.26% (-26.1 bps), against a 24 hour average of -46.6 bps.
The gap splits almost evenly. The dollar leg, Tether in lira against the official USD/TRY rate from Oct 30, was -12.6 bps. The crypto leg, Bitcoin priced against that Tether, was -13.5 bps.
Among the five eligible exchanges, BtcTurk was the dearest at -7.9 bps and Bitlo the cheapest at -47.3 bps. This is a price gap, not a trade anyone can execute at these readings.

### 16:01 UTC · XT shows the top funding rate on four coins

XT showed the highest funding rate on all four coins at the top of our board in the Oct 31 reading at 15:52 UTC. Funding is the periodic fee that passes between longs and shorts, and XT's rate was the highest for $ADA, $LINK, $AVAX and BNB.
Cardano had the widest gap, 0.11% per 8 hours between XT and Delta Exchange, where its rate was lowest. Chainlink followed at 0.1% against Bitfinex, Avalanche at 0.09% against WhiteBIT and BNB at 0.08% against Bitfinex.

So the long lean is wide in numbers but thinner in money. OKX accounts read 2.63, close to Binance.
Order flow didn't match the crowd. Market sells beat market buys by -238 BTC over 24 hours, and in the last hour buyers took 0.93 for every 1 sold. Among 30 coins tracked, $SOL carried the most one sided crowd at 3.06 long accounts per short.

### 19:00 UTC · Stablecoin supply slips under $300B

Stablecoin supply finished the 24 hours to 19:00 UTC on Oct 31 at $299.60B, under the $300B mark. That was a move of -0.39% for the dollar tokens traders keep on crypto rails to buy coins and post as margin, so a little less cash sits ready inside the market.
Mood didn't move with it. The Fear and Greed index, a score of how nervous or bold crypto traders feel, reads 30, in fear, with no change over the day.
Bitcoin holds 59.25% of total crypto market value.

### 20:00 UTC · Bitcoin holds 59.22% of all crypto value

Bitcoin's share of the whole crypto market stands at 59.22% as of 19:42 UTC on Oct 31, in a market worth $2.63T. $ETH, the largest of the rest, holds 10.45%.
In plain terms, most of the money parked in crypto sits in one coin. For anyone holding altcoins, Ether's slice is a fraction of what $BTC carries on its own.
There is no 24 hour reading to set this against, so it describes where the money sits on Oct 31. It doesn't measure money moving toward or away from altcoins.

### 20:40 UTC · Layer 2 led every theme basket higher

Every one of the eight theme baskets we track closed higher in the 24 hours to Oct 31. Layer 2 led with +6.38%, and Meme followed at +5.65%. Quantum posted the smallest gain at +1.33%.
The 30 day picture is weaker. Bitcoin returned -7.5% over that stretch, and no basket kept up with it. Layer 2 came closest at -8.4%, 1 percentage point behind $BTC. DeFi trailed by the widest gap at -20.8%, 13.3 points back, with RWA at -20%.

### 20:45 UTC · Tokenized stock supply grows as trading thins

More tokenized stock supply sat onchain on Oct 31, but far less of it changed hands. Supply at the share price reached $3.91B, +1.47% on the last recorded day, while decentralized exchange volume came to $107.0M, -59.74% against the day before.
Binance bStocks is the largest issuer, holding $1.32B of that supply.
No premium or discount reading today. The listed shares these tokens track don't trade on Saturday, so the reference price is closed and the gap between wrapper and real share can't be measured.

### 22:20 UTC · Jupiter longs hold 81.3% of open bets

Liquidity providers in Jupiter's JLP pool hold $814.8M and earn 11.13% a year. Most of what they back is long. Long positions total $82.0M against $18.9M in shorts as of Oct 31, so 81.3% of open money on Jupiter Perps bets on higher prices.
Solana carries most of it, with $48.6M long and $13.2M short. Bitcoin has $25.9M long and $4.6M short, and Ether has $7.5M long and $1.0M short.
The short side is the tighter one. On $SOL, 64.9% of the pool money set aside for shorts is already borrowed, against 12.3% on the long side.

### 22:35 UTC · Solana perp traders turned over $299.5M

Solana's perp traders turned over $299.5M in the 24 hours to Oct 31, more than the $225.2M they kept open across six venues and 290 markets.
Most of that open money sits on three venues. GM Trade leads with $93.1M, or 41.3% of the board, ahead of Pacifica at $55.0M (24.4%) and Jupiter Perps at $50.4M (22.4%). Phoenix holds $22.5M, Bullet $4.1M, and Velocity barely registers at $112K.
The largest single market is $SOL on Jupiter Perps at $30.9M. That venue charges an hourly borrow fee, the cost of keeping a leveraged position open, in place of funding, and it stood at +0.0016% an hour.
