## How the math works

- Long: liq_price = entry × (1 − 1 / leverage) / (1 − maintenance_margin_rate)
- Short: liq_price = entry × (1 + 1 / leverage) / (1 + maintenance_margin_rate)
- Cross margin: the whole wallet backs the position, so wallet_balance / position_size takes the place of 1 / leverage.

Maintenance margin rate (MMR) varies by exchange, symbol and notional tier. The leverage tiers page lists the recorded maintenance margin ladder of every perpetual per exchange; enter the rate of the tier your position falls in.

## FAQ

### How is the liquidation price calculated for a long?

For isolated margin, liquidation price = entry x (1 - 1/leverage) / (1 - maintenance margin rate). Shorts use entry x (1 + 1/leverage) / (1 + maintenance margin rate).

### Does the calculator support cross margin?

Yes. In cross mode the whole wallet balance backs the position, so wallet balance / position size takes the place of 1 / leverage in the formula, which pushes the liquidation price further away from entry.

### What maintenance margin rate should I enter?

The rate of the tier your position falls in on your exchange. MMR varies by exchange, symbol and notional tier; the leverage tiers page lists the ladders per exchange, recorded daily.
