Altcoin Season (Altseason)

A market phase where altcoins broadly outperform Bitcoin, visible as falling BTC dominance during a rally.

Altcoin season, or altseason, is the stretch of a crypto cycle where money rotates out of Bitcoin into altcoins and most alts outperform BTC for weeks. The cleanest tell is Bitcoin dominance falling while total market cap rises: the market is growing and BTC is getting a smaller share of it. Classic sequencing is BTC rallies first, then ETH and majors, then mid-caps and memecoins as risk appetite peaks. The reverse, dominance rising in a selloff, means alts are bleeding harder than Bitcoin. We track the live dominance value and the stablecoin flows that usually fund altseasons on our indices page.
