Is It Altcoin Season Right Now?

When most large altcoins outrun Bitcoin for weeks, capital is rotating down the risk curve: that is altseason. This index measures it directly: the share of the top 50 Binance perpetual altcoins whose trailing 90-day return beats BTC's. 75 or higher is altseason, 25 or lower is Bitcoin season. We record the reading daily, so the history on this page is measured, not reconstructed.

Who is actually winning the rotation?

The live reading with the strongest and weakest large alts against BTC over the window. A high index with narrow leadership is a different market than a high index with broad participation.

The recorded history

One reading per UTC day, recorded as it happened. We started recording on 2026-07-30; the chart grows a point every day and is never backfilled from a reconstruction.

· · ·

Why so short? Rebuilding past readings with today's coin universe would quietly rewrite history (survivorship bias), so we record forward instead. History, as measured.

03

Methodology and honest limits

Universe: the top 50 Binance USDT-M perpetual altcoins by 24h quote volume, excluding stablecoins and index products. This is a stated, honest proxy for the market-cap universes other trackers use; actively traded coins dominate it.

Score: for each alt, the trailing 90-day return from daily closes is compared with BTC's. The index is the percentage of alts that beat BTC. Coins with fewer than 60 daily candles are excluded so fresh listings cannot skew the share.

Recording: the live value refreshes every 6 hours; one reading per UTC day is written to our permanent metric archive. Once at least 30 days exist, the same conditional-distribution table we publish for every metric appears here.

Limits: the index says nothing about direction, only breadth of rotation. A falling market can print a high index if alts fall less than BTC.

FAQ

What counts as altseason?

A reading of 75 or higher: three quarters of the tracked large altcoins are outperforming Bitcoin over the trailing 90 days. 25 or lower is the mirror image, Bitcoin season.

Why does your number differ from other altseason trackers?

Universe and window choices differ. Ours is the top 50 Binance perpetual altcoins by volume against a 90-day window, stated openly. The regime read usually agrees across trackers even when the exact number differs.

How is this different from BTC dominance?

Dominance tracks where the market cap sits; the season index tracks how many alts are actually winning. Falling dominance plus a rising season index is the classic altseason confirmation; either alone is often noise.

Why does the recorded history start in 2026?

Because we refuse to reconstruct it. Backfilling with today's coin list would inject survivorship bias, so the chart only contains readings recorded on the day they happened.
