How far do stock perps drift from the close while the US market is shut?
Stock, index and commodity perpetuals keep trading when the US cash market closes on Friday and every night. This board measures each one against our own record of the last close: the gap at fixed checkpoints through the weekend and the night, how far the venues disagree, and where the price stands ten minutes after the open.
Recorded since 2026-08-25: 4 of the last 12 weekends and 19 of the last 20 nights on file.
Weekend after the 2026-10-02 close: across 182 stock, index and commodity perps, the median absolute gap to our recorded close was 1.29% at Open +10 min; the widest venue spread was LRCX at 14.38% (Sun 12:00 UTC).

Method
The reference is our own record: the median venue price of each perpetual in the last 10-minute snapshot before the US cash close at 16:00 New York time. No exchange closing price is read, so the gap is the perpetuals against themselves at the close.
Weekend checkpoints: Saturday 12:00 UTC, Sunday 12:00 UTC, Sunday 20:00 UTC, Monday 09:20 New York (pre-open) and the open, the first snapshot after 09:30 New York, ten minutes into the session. Night checkpoints after a Monday to Thursday close: 04:00 UTC, 09:20 New York and the open. New York times follow summer and winter time.
At each checkpoint: the median price across the venues that list the underlying, the number of venues, the spread between the highest and the lowest venue as a share of the median, and the gap of the median to the reference. A missed collector run falls back to a snapshot up to 20 minutes earlier (for the open, up to 20 minutes later).
The page reads the last 12 weekends and the last 20 nights recorded since 2026-08-25. The same side column needs at least 5 windows in which both readings moved away from the close; it describes the windows recorded, it is not a forecast.
Limits. There is no holiday calendar: on a US market holiday the reference close or the open falls on a shut session and the row still reads the perpetuals at that clock time. Commodity futures reopen on Sunday evening New York time, so the Sunday 20:00 UTC reading for gold or crude already follows a live futures market. A venue that pauses its stock perps over the weekend can keep printing its last price, which pulls the median toward the close and widens the spread. Only the US stock, index and commodity perps of the TradFi board enter; the Asian equity perps close on other clocks.
Questions
What is a weekend gap on a stock perpetual?
The US cash market stops at 16:00 New York time on Friday and reopens at 09:30 on Monday, while the perpetuals on the same stocks keep trading. The weekend gap is how far the perpetual price moves from where it stood at the close before the stock itself trades again.
Why is the reference our record and not the official close?
The board reads no outside price feed. The reference is the median of the perpetual venues in the last snapshot before the close, so the gap compares the perpetuals with themselves and a venue's own basis to the stock does not enter it.
Does the Sunday reading tell where the stock opens?
The same side column counts, per underlying, how often the open landed on the same side of the close as the Sunday 20:00 UTC reading. It describes the weekends recorded so far and stays empty until 5 of them hold both readings. It is a record, not a forecast.
Where can I get the data?
/api/public/tradfi-gaps returns the summary and the latest window, or every window of one underlying with ?symbol=; ?window=night switches to nights. The tradfi-gaps dataset on the data hub has one row per window, underlying and checkpoint, and the paid venue-markets-history route serves the raw 10-minute venue snapshots behind it.
