Coinbase discount on Bitcoin runs 44 days
Coinbase has priced Bitcoin below the rest of the market for 44 days without a break in our records. In Monday's reading, $BTC on the US exchange traded -0.133% under the global price.
Across the past seven days the gap averaged -0.129%, so today's figure sits a little deeper than the week's norm. This gap is the Coinbase premium, Coinbase's price measured against the global price. A negative reading means US buyers are paying less than buyers elsewhere.
The premium shows where demand is being priced. It does not say which way Bitcoin moves. The gap itself is small, and the length of the streak is what stands out.

Weekly Brief
US buyers stay below global price for 44 days
Not one day in the week to Oct 19 saw Coinbase buyers pay more for Bitcoin than the rest of the world. The US discount has run 44 straight days in our records, and it averaged -0.129% across the week.
$BTC finished the 7 days at -1.0%. The volatility options traders price in (DVOL) went from 37.4 a week ago to 38.9, and our streams recorded $2.5B in forced liquidations.
Traders who started options trades put $29.8M into puts against $26.7M into calls. The largest single trade was a $3.3M sale of the Mar 26, 2027 Bitcoin call at $88,000.

Daily Brief
XRP buyers pile on fresh leverage
$XRP traders added more leverage than any other major on our board in the 24 hours to Oct 19. Open interest, the value of open futures bets, grew +4.8% with price up +1.7%, and the new positions are longs.
Across 10 tracked majors, 3 were adding leverage and 1 was seeing positions squeezed out.
$BTC traded at $82,829, up 1.37% over 24 hours, and holds 60.17% of a $2.8T market. Coinbase buyers bid Bitcoin -0.13% below the global price, day 44 of that streak, and the Fear & Greed index read 59, in greed.

US buyers pay less for a 44th day
For a 44th day in a row, Bitcoin bought on Coinbase cost less than the same coin on the rest of the market. Today's gap reads -0.133%, a touch wider than the 7 day average of -0.129%.
That gap is the Coinbase premium, the price on Coinbase measured against the global price. A negative reading means US buyers on that venue are paying below what traders elsewhere pay for $BTC, and it has stayed negative on every day of the streak.
The premium tracks where buyers are paying more or less. It does not measure which way price moves.

US buyers stay under global price for 44 days
American buyers kept bidding under the rest of the world on Oct 18, stretching the Coinbase discount on $BTC to 44 days in a row. The gap closed the day at -0.133%, meaning Bitcoin changed hands for less on Coinbase than on global venues.
The seven day average came in at -0.129%, close to the level Oct 18 finished at. Here the length of the run says more than the size of the gap.
Further out, quarterly futures were priced above spot at an annualized +5.42%, the extra traders pay to hold Bitcoin exposure into the next expiry.
Since 2017, days in this very low band saw a median +0.0% BTC move over the next 7d (n=663, base +0.5%, 9y of records). History, not a forecast.

Network Health
Miners lifted hashrate +25.4% over 30 days
Bitcoin's miners pointed far more machinery at the network over the past month. Hashrate, the total computing power securing it, reached 1234 EH/s on Oct 18 by our node's count. That is +25.4% against 30 days earlier and +5.9% against 7 days earlier.
Mining difficulty, the setting for how hard each block is to find, was 140.58T. Miners earned 495.7 BTC over the day. Getting a transaction into a block cost 1.0 sat/vB, so moving coins on chain was cheap.
This hashrate reading sits in the very high range of our records going back to 2017.
Since 2017, days in this very high band saw a median +0.1% BTC move over the next 7d (n=639, base +0.5%, 8y of records). History, not a forecast.

LiquidationsAlert
Q shorts squeezed for $2.5M in 30 minutes
A short squeeze just hit $Q. Over the last 30 minutes, the major venues liquidated $2.5M of short positions. That means exchanges shut bets on a lower price after the margin behind them ran out.
Leveraged longs got off lightly. Only $312.9K of them were closed out in the same window, so nearly all of the damage fell on traders positioned for a drop.
Both totals come from the raw liquidation streams of the major venues.

Paradex goes into maintenance
Paradex just switched its own status page to maintenance. Our poll, which checks the venue every 5 minutes, picked up the change.
The people this touches are traders with orders or positions on Paradex. During maintenance, new orders may be rejected, so anyone needing to adjust a position there could be blocked until the venue reports ok again.
The alert covers the venue as a whole, with no single coin or network named.

SuperChart
An $11.7M Binance long was forced closed
A rising Bitcoin still caught one big leveraged buyer. The largest forced closure in the 24 hours to Oct 19 was a long liquidation of $11.7M on Binance. That figure is the size of the position closed, not the trader's loss.
$BTC finished the window +0.85% at $82,151. That one closure sat among 1,377 recorded prints of $1K or more on our chart.
The heatmap behind the candles is an estimate of where leveraged positions could be closed. The prints on the candles are closures our collectors recorded.
Liquidations
Leveraged buyers took most of the losses
Leverage on the buy side absorbed most of the forced closures on Oct 18. Longs lost $155.8M of the $225.0M our streams recorded, a 69.2% share, against $69.3M on the short side, across 82,499 events on 11 venues.
Ether was the biggest single source at $59.8M, with $35.5M from longs and $24.3M from shorts. Bitcoin followed at $44.4M, and Binance alone handled $135.9M of the day's total.
The day ran 9.7% below Oct 17's $249.1M and under the 7 day average of $339.7M. These are closures recorded from public venue streams, so the full market figure is at least this large.
TradFi Perps
Stock perp forced closures shrank 89%
Forced closures on Binance's TradFi perpetuals shrank to $9.62M on Oct 18, 89% below the $85.08M recorded on Oct 17.
Neither side took the bulk of the damage this time. The split was 56% longs / 44% shorts, across 216 contracts and 3,354 separate closures.
Crude oil led at $1.59M, and $1.17M of that came from traders betting on a lower $CL. One oil position alone accounted for $992K, the largest single closure of the day. SNDK followed at $1.58M, and gold came third at $1.06M, with $794K of it from leveraged sellers.
Borrow Rates
Bitcoin longs on Binance pay 10.95% a year
Bitcoin longs on Binance paid the most for their position relative to borrowing costs in the 05:25 UTC read on Oct 19. Traders long $BTC perpetuals there paid 10.95% a year in funding to the short side. Borrowing BTC on margin on the same venue cost 0.43% a year.
That 10.52% gap between funding and borrowing was the widest across 15 assets on three venues. It is a recorded spread from one read, not a locked return.
Borrowing dollars cost 3.5% a year in USDT on OKX, the cheapest of the three. Bybit's 3.91% was the median, and Binance charged the most at 4.68%.
Withdrawals and NetworksAlert
Binance reopens USDC withdrawals on CELO
A short pause on Binance is over. The exchange has turned USDC withdrawals on the CELO network back on, after that route sat closed for about 1 hour, based on Binance's own currency list in our daily read.
The people this touches are $USDC holders on Binance who move dollars out over CELO, for example to a CELO wallet or another venue on that chain. During the pause, that path was blocked even if other networks stayed open.
The reopening covers withdrawals on CELO only. Other USDC networks and deposits each carry their own status on the venue's list.
Insurance Funds
Every insurance fund grew over the day
Every one of the 10 exchange insurance funds we track was larger on Oct 19 than a day earlier. Together they hold $7.68B, a gain of +$33.7M or +0.44% over 24 hours, and a change of -0.26% against a week ago.
An insurance fund is the cash a venue keeps to cover liquidated positions that close beyond what the trader's margin can pay. OKX added the most at +0.75% and holds the largest pool at $3.03B. Bybit came next at +0.60%.
Across the coins we follow, the combined funds equal 16.17% of perpetual open interest, the bets still open on contracts with no expiry. These are balances the exchanges report, not audits.
Expiries and Settlements
Deribit lines up 13 Bitcoin expiries Tuesday
Deribit has 13 dated $BTC futures and 13 dated $ETH futures expiring on Tuesday, Oct 20. The same venue also closes out one AVAX and one HYPE contract that day, and Bullish has a dated Bitcoin future of its own on the same date.
The nearest expiry comes first. Coinbase has a single CDEOIL contract due Oct 19. Across the next seven days, 134 dated futures contracts and 7,613 option contracts expire on 11 venues.
The last 24 hours were quiet by comparison. Deribit's USDC margined $AVAX contract for Oct 19 settled at $9.792 at 08:00 UTC. It was the only dated future to settle in the window to 09:15 UTC.

Leveraged longs took $1.88B of weekly closures
Leveraged buyers took most of last week's forced closures. Our collectors recorded $2.47B across 664,304 events from Oct 12 to Oct 19, with longs at $1.88B and shorts at $581.9M. $ETH led every coin at $617.3M.
Trades of $1M or more added up to $110.31B, the largest a $37.7M $BTC trade. Open bets on perps across 27 venues ended at $73.16B, -0.91% on the week. US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw -$228.6M net over the last five settled days, Ether ETFs -$320.0M.
All of it, plus 2,012 order book snapshots taken every 5 minutes, is in the free datasets.
Order Book Heatmap
Both sides of the Bitcoin book got deeper
Both sides of the $BTC spot book were deeper at 09:35 UTC on Oct 19 than a day earlier. Resting bids within 2% of the $83.0K mid grew 11.4%, and asks grew 8.7%.
Sellers still held the heavier side across 21 venues, with $178.8M of asks against $151.3M of bids, an imbalance of -8.3%. The mid moved 1% over the window, from $82.1K.
The two largest walls sat right against the price. A $39.1M ask wall rested at $83.0K, 0.05% above mid, and a $33.2M bid wall sat at $82.9K, 0.05% below. Resting orders can be pulled at any moment, so this is a snapshot of the book, not a map of where price goes.
Whale Tape
Big traders split almost evenly
Big traders finished the 24 hours to 10:00 UTC on Oct 19 almost exactly level. Buyers moved $6.56B and sellers $6.50B across 7,229 large trades, leaving buyers with 50.3% of the flow.
That sits well inside the 45% to 55% range we treat as two sided, so no side of the whale flow led the day.
$BTC carried the most money, $7.57B over 3,957 trades, and also took the largest single order at $29.1M. $ETH came next with 2,781 large trades.
LiqMap
Bitcoin longs carry more modeled risk nearby
Bitcoin longs on borrowed money held more of the modeled liquidation risk near the price at 11:00 UTC on Oct 19. With $BTC at $82,366, the estimated map put more exposure within 3% below the price, where long positions get forced out, than above it.
The nearest modeled long liquidations start at $81,913. A larger estimated cluster sits further down at $79,706.
Above the price, the nearest modeled short liquidations begin at $83,160, with a bigger estimated group at $83,928.

Alerts now say when they can't reach you
Alert rules now tell you when they cannot reach you. That was the one breaking change in 9 changes this week, spread across data, the API and the site. Identical rules are now refused, and the real time path keeps the plan limit.
On the data side, the independent verifier reads the Base copies on a free endpoint and keeps keys out of its output. It survives a throttled Base endpoint and can continue from its own checkpoint, and its daily run can carry the full verdict.
API users also get clearer 401 answers that say what arrived, with a reason field.
OI Leaderboard
Cardano traders unwind the most futures bets
Most of the majors on our board shed futures bets in the 24 hours to Oct 19, 11:35 UTC, and Cardano shed the most. Open interest in $ADA, the value of futures positions still open, moved -4.83% with price at -1.04%. Funding was -0.01%, a small fee shorts paid longs to stay in.
Chainlink and Avalanche followed at -3.91% and -3.68%. Avalanche fell -1.39% on the day, the same pattern of positions closing into a lower price.
The one clear build came in $XRP, where open interest moved 3.29% on a 0.35% price change and funding sat at 0%, so neither side paid much to hold its bets.
Symbols Board
Bitcoin trades above yesterday's busy range
Ether is still trading inside the band where it spent most of yesterday's session. Bitcoin is not, and it sits above its own band ahead of the US open.
On Oct 18, Bitcoin perpetuals spent 70% of their trading time between $81,170.71 and $82,270.36, and the price that drew the most trade was $81,679.80. At 12:44 UTC, $BTC was at $82,535.80, over the top of that band.
Ether's band ran from $2,370.35 to $2,426.79, with the most traded price at $2,411.78. $ETH was at $2,424.41 at the same time, inside it and near the upper edge.
These are the prices where trade spent its time on Oct 18, a reference for the session that follows.
LiqMap
Ether leverage sits tight on both sides
Ether's leveraged traders are boxed in on both sides. With $ETH at $2,424 on Oct 19 at 13:00 UTC, the modeled map puts the nearest short liquidation levels at $2,446 and the nearest long liquidation levels at $2,410.
The heavier estimated clusters sit further out. Short positions would be forced to buy back around $2,461, and the largest modeled block of long levels is at $2,342. Within 3% of price, exposure looks balanced, with no side clearly more crowded.
Under $2,410, the first estimated long liquidations start.
Slippage Map
Chainlink's book charges the most to trade
Moving $1.0M through Bitcoin's order book cost an estimated 0.3 bps in slippage on Oct 19, measured at 14:00 UTC. The same order in $LINK cost 23.8 bps, the most of the eight books we track.
Slippage is the gap between the quoted price and the average fill. Ether came in at 0.9 bps, Solana at 3.7 bps and XRP at 6.5 bps. On the thin side, Cardano cost 19.4 bps, Dogecoin 12.3 bps and BNB 8.1 bps.
A thin book has fewer resting orders near the price, so a burst of forced closures in Chainlink or Cardano moves price further per dollar than the same burst in $BTC.
Order Book Heatmap
Bitcoin offers outweigh bids on spot books
Offers stacked above Bitcoin outweighed resting bids on spot books at 13:59 UTC on Oct 19. Within 2% of the $82,128 price, 21 venues showed $162.9M of asks against $133.0M of bids, an imbalance of -10.1% toward the offer side.
The two largest blocks sat tight against the price, each 0.1% away. There was $40.6M offered at $82,169 above and $33.1M bid at $82,087 below.
Ether's book was close to even, with $88.0M of asks against $85.3M of bids (-1.6%). Its biggest block was an $18.0M bid at $2,398, 0.1% under $2,402.
Resting size can be pulled at any moment. These are orders waiting on the book, not trades that happened.
Long/Short Pressure
BTW shorts pay up as bets shrink
BTW tops our pressure board at 15:00 UTC on Oct 19 with a score of 91, and the weight sits on the sellers. Open futures bets on $BTW moved -15.92% over 24 hours, and funding reads -0.21%, meaning traders betting on a drop pay a fee to those betting on a rise.
Positions are leaving, yet the shorts that remain pay to hold them. That is one sided positioning with no new money arriving.
Most of the board leans short through exits. Open bets on $Q moved -32.31% and on QQQ -29.56%, the latter with funding at 0%. GTC stands apart, with open bets up 26.18% and funding at -0.17%.
Turkey Premium
Lira buyers pay less than the world for Bitcoin
Bitcoin cost lira buyers less than the global price on Oct 19. The Turkey Premium Index read -0.21% (-20.5 bps), a score of 42 / 100 that sits in the neutral regime.
The gap came almost entirely from the dollar side. Tether traded at -19.8 bps against the official USD/TRY rate, and Bitcoin itself added only -0.7 bps on top of that.
No Turkish exchange in the index charged a premium. OKX TR was the dearest at -14.4 bps and BtcTurk the cheapest at -23.3 bps, across 5 eligible exchanges. The 24 hour average stood at -10.6 bps and the 7 day average at -12.2 bps.
Order Book Heatmap
Ether sellers stacked 18.3% more offers
Sellers added depth to Ether's spot book in the 24 hours to 15:39 UTC on Oct 19. Offers within 2% of the price were 18.3% deeper than a day earlier and bids were 5.1% thinner, even as $ETH rose 1.4% over the same window.
Across 21 spot venues that left $93.72M in resting asks against $88.37M in bids, an imbalance of -2.9%, heavier on the sell side.
The two biggest walls sat close to the price, each 0.15% away. $19.68M was offered at $2,408.50 and $16.58M was bid at $2,401.28. Resting orders can be pulled at any moment, so this is a snapshot of the book, not a map of where price goes.
Funding Arb Scanner
XT charges longs the most on three coins
XT was the most expensive venue to hold a leveraged long on three of the four coins at the top of our funding board in the Oct 19 reading at 15:52 UTC. Funding, the fee longs pay shorts, ran highest there for $AVAX, $ADA and $DOGE.
Avalanche showed the widest gap, 0.08% per 8 hours between its cheapest and dearest venue. Cardano came in at 0.07% and Dogecoin at 0.06%, with Kraken the cheapest place to be long Dogecoin. Dogwifhat's 0.07% gap ran the other way, with Kraken the priciest venue.
Modeled over a full year after fees, and assuming today's gap holds, the Avalanche spread works out to 73.98% a year. That is a model of the carry, not a recorded return.
RSI Heatmap
KGEN leads 69 oversold Binance perps
KGEN carries the most one sided selling on our Binance board on Oct 19. Its daily RSI, a 14 day gauge of how lopsided the moves have been, reads 17.2, the lowest of the 400 crypto perpetuals we track.
PRL follows at 18.1 with a 24 hour change of +0.3%, then APR at 18.8 and -0.0%. In all, 69 contracts sit at or under 30, the oversold line, against 13 at 70 or over. The average across the board is 41.8.
At the other end, Q reads 85.9, the most stretched to the upside.
